Boredoms
in the Bathroom is the brainchild of David Turner and Martin Robinson.
Conceived
back in late 1999, the band fuses the atmospheric guitar sound of
the Smashing Pumpkins with the beats of Death in Vegas.
Their
first gig in 2000 was a "Battle of the Bands" at student hall, where
BitB stood out as the only truly original thing in a monotony of bland
Oasis covers and sycophantic Nirvana rip-offs. At the time, the band
featured a full rhythm section and a female vocalist.
By the next gig in 2002, the rhythm section had entirely changed,
another vocalist added and the sound tightened up. Shortly afterwards,
the band changed again, this time for good. The line-up was stripped
down to the two core members, the use of samples replaced vocals and
a drum machine appeared.
The
result was a more industrial, more tailored sound that heralded a
new era in the band's history. Since then, they have extensively gigged
in Reading, showcasing new songs and rejuvenating the old.
The band describe themselves as an "alloy" band i.e. not quite metal
and can best be summed up by listening to Kid A, then playing some
rocking guitars over the top. Either that or putting the entire Billy
Corgan back catalogue through a food processor.
